About the role
We are seeking to appoint a Special Education Needs Teaching Assistant to join our team at Leighterton Primary School. This will be a well-supported role, requiring a person who is able to support and nurture children with additional needs.
The postholder will provide tailored support to a specific child/ren, in accordance with the outcomes and provisions set out in their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Duties will include implementing agreed strategies, adapting learning materials, and liaising with teaching staff, parents/carers, and relevant professionals to ensure the child’s educational, social, and emotional needs are met. This role is subject to review should the EHCP be amended or if the pupil’s placement changes.
The successful candidate will be someone who, ideally:
Is calm, patient, can work effectively in a team and who is able to use their own initiative
Is committed to nurturing children, particularly those with additional needs
Is emotionally resilient; skills in supporting children with social, emotional and mental health needs would be beneficial
Is confident in working with pupils on a 1:1 basis, as well as in small groups, as directed by the class teacher to provide excellent and consistent support in behaviour management, classroom routines and to access the curriculum
Has knowledge and experience of working in the primary phases
Has good interpersonal skills, including working closely with parents and a wide range of professionals
Is committed to the inclusive ethos and values of the school
If you choose to join the Leighterton team, we can offer:
- Friendly, enthusiastic, well-behaved children
- A happy school with a great team of staff
- Supportive parents, colleagues, leaders, local governors and Trust leaders
- A positive ethos underpinned by shared values
- A beautiful setting with spacious indoor and outdoor areas
- Employee assistance programme
- Nationally negotiated cost of living pay
- Automatic enrolment to the teacher or local government pension schemes
- Cycle to Work scheme
- The opportunity to work collaboratively within The Athelstan Trust
The Athelstan Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check along with standard pre-employment safeguarding checks. As the role includes working with children, it is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Applicants must, therefore, disclose all spent and unspent convictions. References will be sought for shortlisted candidates before interview. Please also be aware that you will be subject to an online check and that you may be questioned about the findings of such a check at your interview.
We are a flexible working employer, and we are willing to consider any reasonable adjustments you require so please ask us during your interview.
