Job description

This role offers the opportunity to shape security policy and protective measures for Great Britain’s domestic rail network. You will advise rail operators and project teams to embed proportionate counter-terrorism security in infrastructure projects, while developing guidance and regulation for stations and other assets. Working across government, industry, police and security agencies, you will use research and analysis to inform policy. We are seeking an organised, collaborative self-starter; construction or engineering knowledge would be beneficial.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:

• Provide security policy advice into new railway infrastructure and redevelopments.
• Act as the first point of contact for DfT and industry stakeholders for the Security in the Design of Stations (SIDOS) guidance document.
• Act as the primary point of contact for counter terrorism security advice.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Support DfT’s response to a terrorist attack on the rail network, to also include participation in planning, training and exercising.

Person specification

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:

• Researching for and providing well-reasoned policy advice to stakeholders.
• Experience of input into risk assessments, project delivery and training development.
• Developing and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders.

Additional Information

Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements

Full time roles consist of 37 hours per week.

Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 30 hours per week.

This role is suitable for hybrid working, which is a non-contractual arrangement where a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements.

The expectation at present is a minimum of 60% of your working time a month will be spent at either your designated workplace (one of the locations cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, in another office/work location/visiting stakeholders. Your designated workplace will be your contractual place of work. There may be occasions where you are required to attend above the minimum expectation.

Regular travel to other offices will be required, which may involve overnight stays.
