About the role:

EdStaff are currently recruiting for a Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school in Wigan, starting immediately on an ongoing basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a caring, patient and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about supporting young people and helping them achieve their potential.

The successful candidate will work within the classroom, providing small-group support to students including those with SEND who require additional help with their learning. You will work closely with teaching staff to ensure students remain engaged, confident and able to access the curriculum.

Staff are encouraged to build positive, consistent relationships with pupils, creating a stable and structured learning environment. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to behaviour support within a warm and friendly school, allowing you to make a real impact with young people.

Key responsibilities:

• Support pupils. including those with SEND on a 1:1 and small-group basis
• Implement behaviour strategies and support emotional regulation
• Monitoring and recording students’ progress and wellbeing to provide feedback to teachers and caregivers.
• Promoting a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment that encourages participation and fosters independence.
• Encourage engagement in learning activities
• To build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO
• Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, including therapists and parents, to meet holistic care goals

Person specification:

• Previous experience supporting children or young people in a role such as: Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Care worker, Support worker or Children’s Residential worker
• Ability to engage students aged 11-16 years
• Strong relationship-building skills
• Good communication and teamwork skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Confident working with small groups of secondary-aged students
• Reliable and punctual with a professional attitude

Essential  requirements:

• Have the right to work in the UK
• Hold a Level 2 or 3 qualification in supporting teaching and learning or relevant experience as detailed above
• Hold an enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one
• Able to provide references to cover a 2-year period
