About the role

Zest Education is currently recruiting for a caring, patient, and dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Cannock. This is a full-time opportunity starting in September, supporting a Year 2 pupil with Autism on an ongoing basis.

The school prides itself on creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child receives the support they need to flourish. Consequently, they are seeking a Teaching Assistant who can provide consistency, encouragement, and personalised support throughout the school day.

About the Role

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a Year 2 pupil with Autism, helping them access learning, engage with classroom activities, and develop positive relationships with both peers and staff.

Furthermore, you will support the child through daily routines and transitions, ensuring they feel safe, confident, and ready to learn. By working alongside the class teacher and SENDCO, you will implement tailored strategies that meet the pupil’s individual needs and help them make progress academically, socially, and emotionally.

This role requires someone who can build a strong and trusting relationship with the child while maintaining a calm, positive, and proactive approach throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil with Autism.
  • Support the child in accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities.
  • Encourage communication, social interaction, and positive engagement.
  • Help the pupil develop confidence, independence, and resilience.
  • Implement personalised support strategies and interventions.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENDCO, and wider school staff.
  • Monitor progress and contribute to support plans where appropriate.
  • Promote a structured, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.
  • Celebrate achievements and support the child’s overall development.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will:

  • Have experience supporting children with Autism or additional learning needs.
  • Demonstrate patience, empathy, and a child-centred approach.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with pupils.
  • Understand the importance of routine, consistency, and clear communication.
  • Be adaptable and responsive to individual needs.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Be passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning.
  • Hold a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
