The Opportunity

We are supporting an NHS Trust in the East of England with the appointment of a Locum Consultant Medical Oncologist, subspecialising in Breast Oncology.

This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified Consultant Medical Oncologist with specialist experience in Breast Oncology to join an established NHS cancer service and provide high-quality, patient-centred oncology care.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary Breast Cancer and Oncology team, supporting the delivery of specialist cancer services and contributing to the assessment, treatment and ongoing management of patients.

The Role

The successful candidate will provide Consultant-level Medical Oncology services, with a subspecialist focus on Breast Oncology.

The role will include:

  • Providing Consultant-level specialist Medical Oncology care
  • Managing patients with breast cancer across appropriate stages of treatment
  • Assessing patients and developing individualised oncology treatment plans
  • Providing specialist advice regarding systemic anti-cancer treatments
  • Working closely with Breast Cancer and wider Oncology multidisciplinary teams
  • Participating in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and contributing to clinical decision-making
  • Providing specialist clinical advice to colleagues and referring clinicians
  • Supporting safe and effective patient pathways from diagnosis through treatment and follow-up
  • Reviewing and managing patients receiving systemic anti-cancer therapies where appropriate
  • Maintaining accurate clinical documentation and high standards of patient care
  • Contributing to clinical governance, audit and service improvement activities
  • Supporting junior medical staff and colleagues where appropriate
  • Maintaining high standards of clinical safety, professionalism and patient-centred care

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

  • Full GMC registration with licence to practise
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Medical Oncology, or relevant experience for a locum appointment
  • Specialist experience in Breast Medical Oncology
  • Previous NHS Consultant-level experience
  • Strong experience in the assessment and management of patients with breast cancer
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary oncology environment
  • Excellent clinical decision-making and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred cancer care
  • Availability to commence ASAP

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience working within an NHS Breast Oncology service
  • Experience participating in Breast Cancer MDT meetings
  • Experience in clinical audit, governance or service improvement
  • Teaching and supervision experience
  • Experience contributing to service development and pathway improvement
