The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Stroke Consultant to support a service in the South West within the Urgent & Integrated Care Directorate.

This opportunity offers a locum consultant contract within a well-established stroke and elderly care service, providing the chance to work alongside experienced multidisciplinary teams delivering high-quality patient care.

The role is ideally suited to candidates with experience in Stroke Medicine and Elderly Care, who are confident managing complex clinical presentations while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and care.

You will play a key role in supporting acute and ongoing stroke services, contributing to service delivery, clinical leadership, and positive patient outcomes.

What You'll Be Doing

• Provide consultant-led care for patients presenting with acute stroke and related neurological conditions.
• Support the delivery of high-quality stroke and elderly care services across the hospital.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including consultants, junior doctors, nurses, therapists, and specialist practitioners.
• Undertake patient assessments, treatment planning, and ongoing clinical management.
• Contribute to service improvement initiatives and clinical governance activities.
• Provide clinical leadership, supervision, and support to junior medical staff where required.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with NHS standards.
• Ensure safe, effective, and patient-centred care at all times.

What We're Looking For

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
• Consultant-level experience in Stroke Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, or a closely related specialty.
• Recent NHS experience within a comparable consultant role.
• Strong clinical decision-making and leadership skills.
• Excellent communication and multidisciplinary team working abilities.
• Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-focused care.
• Valid Right to Work in the UK (please note we do not offer visa sponsorship).
