The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an Acute Medicine Consultant to support, located in the West of Scotland.
This locum opportunity offers a long-term placement, supporting the Acute Medicine service and front-door medical admissions pathway.
The successful candidate will work as either the Admitting Physician or provide Post-Take Care within the Medical Assessment Unit and Ambulatory Care service. You will be responsible for managing new acute medical admissions referred via General Practice and the Emergency Department, working alongside a well-established multidisciplinary team including resident doctors and Advanced Nurse Practitioners.

Shift Pattern
Medical Assessment Unit
- 9:00am - 5:00pm
Ambulatory Care
- 10:00am - 6:00pm
Admitting Physician Duties
- Short Day: 8:00am - 1:00pm (Post-Take Ward Round followed by administration time)
- Long Day: 8:00am - 5:00pm (Post-Take Ward Round and review of new admissions)
Weekend On-Call
- One day: 8:00am - 1:00pm (Post-Take Ward Round)
- One day: 8:00am - 7:00pm (Post-Take Ward Round and review of new admissions)
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the assessment and management of acute medical admissions
- Provide consultant-led post-take ward rounds within the Acute Medicine service
- Support the Medical Assessment Unit and Ambulatory Care pathways
- Review and manage patients referred via General Practice and the Emergency Department
- Work collaboratively with resident doctors, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, nursing staff, and the wider multidisciplinary team
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
- Deliver safe, effective, patient-centred care in accordance with NHS standards
- Contribute to efficient patient flow and service delivery across Acute Medicine
What We're Looking For
- Active GMC registration
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (or eligibility for inclusion)
- Recent NHS experience within Acute Medicine
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills within acute care settings
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent communication and clinical governance standards
- Valid Right to Work in the UK (please note we do not offer visa sponsorship)
