About the role

Senior / Principal Transport Planner – Development Planning

South East & South West | Hybrid Working
Senior: £45,000–£55,000 | Principal: £55,000–£70,000+ depending on experience

We’re working with an established independent multidisciplinary consultancy that is looking to strengthen its Transport Planning team with an experienced Senior or Principal Transport Planner.

This is a particularly good opportunity for someone with a development planning background who enjoys taking ownership of projects, working directly with clients and local authorities, and seeing schemes progress from early feasibility through planning and into delivery.

For someone currently at Senior level, there is genuine scope to progress into a Principal position. Equally, an established Principal could take on a more visible role with greater involvement in clients, commercial activity and the future growth of the team.

The role

You’ll lead and manage development-led transport planning projects, with work including:

  • Transport Assessments and Transport Statements
  • Travel Plans, access appraisals and feasibility studies
  • TRICS and TEMPro
  • Junction modelling using Junctions, LinSig or similar
  • Liaising with developers, planning consultants, architects and local authorities
  • Supporting schemes through pre-application, planning, S106/S278 and delivery
  • Managing projects, budgets and client expectations
  • Reviewing technical work and supporting junior colleagues

At Principal level, there will also be the opportunity to become more involved in client development, fee proposals, commercial activity and helping shape the future growth of the Transport Planning team.

What we’re looking for

You’ll ideally have strong UK development planning experience and be comfortable managing your own projects and client relationships.

Experience across residential, mixed-use, retail, commercial or regeneration developments would all be relevant.

Professional membership of CIHT, TPS, CILT or similar, or working towards this, would also be welcomed.

Why consider it?

You’ll be joining an independent consultancy where your contribution will genuinely be visible, working alongside specialists across highways, infrastructure, drainage, environmental and place-making disciplines.

They offer:

  • £45,000–£55,000 at Senior level
  • £55,000–£70,000+ at Principal level, depending on experience
  • Hybrid working
  • Multiple office location options
  • Support towards professional development and memberships
  • Company pension and wider benefits
  • Genuine progression opportunities
  • Scope at Principal level to influence the growth and direction of the team
  • Collaborative culture with social, sporting and charitable activities
