Milk Education is looking for a passionate and patient SEND Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming SEND School in Durham.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to work in a specialist environment where no two days are the same and every small achievement matters.

You’ll support children and young people with a range of additional needs, helping them develop their communication, independence, confidence and life skills in a safe and nurturing environment.

Whether you’re an experienced SEND professional, a graduate looking to build experience, or someone with a background in care, youth work, psychology, childcare or community support, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support throughout the school day.
• Supporting pupils with a range of SEND and additional needs.
• Encouraging communication and social development.
• Helping pupils develop independence and life skills.
• Supporting learning through personalised and practical activities.
• Celebrating small steps and individual achievements.
• Helping pupils regulate emotions and engage positively.
• Supporting sensory, creative and physical activities.
• Working closely with teachers and specialist staff.
• Creating a safe, positive and inclusive environment.

We’re Looking For Someone Who…

• Is patient, compassionate and resilient.
• Has a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
• Is confident building trusting relationships.
• Understands that every child learns differently.
• Has experience in SEND, education, childcare, care, youth work or similar — desirable but not essential.
• Is a graduate, aspiring teacher or someone with volunteering/placement experience working with children.
• Is happy supporting pupils with different needs throughout the school day.
• Is reliable, adaptable and ready to get stuck in.

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
