About the role

SEN EYFS Teacher (Early Years & Foundational Phase)

Are you an empathetic, early-years or primary specialist who excels at creating structured, nurturing environments for children with autism and complex needs?

Do you have the creativity and expertise to adapt foundational learning and sensory-rich play to support learners with ASC, ADHD, and communication challenges?

Are you seeking a full-time, long-term teaching role starting this September-with a direct path to a permanent contract-within a growing independent specialist school in Retford?

If so, Randstad Education wants to hear from you. We are currently recruiting a dedicated SEN Teacher to lead an early-years / foundational phase class within a well-resourced, independent SEN day school located in the South Leverton / Retford area.

About the School

Situated in a peaceful rural setting in the Retford area, this independent special school caters to pupils aged 5 to 19 who present with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), ADHD, and associated complex learning or emotional needs. Operating with small class sizes, high staff-to-pupil ratios, and an individualised approach to learning, the school focuses on balancing academic development with emotional regulation, social communication, and independence. With modern classroom spaces, dedicated outdoor learning areas, and strong multidisciplinary support, they pride themselves on providing a calm, therapeutic, and inclusive environment where every child's unique talents and achievements are celebrated.

Role and Responsibilities

In this full-time role, you will take lead responsibility for an early-stage / foundational classroom, planning and delivering an individualised curriculum tailored to young children with ASC, ADHD, and complex needs.

Key duties include:

  • Designing and implementing an engaging, highly structured, and multi-sensory curriculum aligned with each pupil's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets.

  • Creating structured, play-based learning opportunities and sensory integration routines that promote emotional regulation, motor skills, and curiosity.

  • Embedding communication tools (such as PECS, Makaton, visual schedules, and symbol boards) to support pre-verbal and early-stage language learners.

  • Managing and deploying a team of classroom support assistants to ensure high standards of care, safety, and consistent daily routines.

Skills Required

  • Strong working knowledge of early childhood development, with proven experience adapting foundational frameworks for children with ASC, ADHD, and complex needs.

  • Practical experience using visual schedules, low-tech communication aids, and structured approaches (e.g., TEACCH principles) to engage neurodivergent learners.

  • A calm, patient, and warm approach, with a deep understanding of behaviour as a form of communication.

Essential Requirements

  • Prior experience teaching children with SEN (specifically ASC, ADHD, or complex needs) within a UK special school, provision, or alternative setting.

  • An Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to undergo a new check via Randstad).

  • Full eligibility to work in the UK (please note, visa sponsorship is not available for this role).
