About the role

Job summary

At the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), we design user-centred services that make the criminal justice system easier to use, quicker to deliver, and fairer for all.

As a Senior Service Designer at the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), you play a key role in improving how we deliver justice, leading service design for complex end to end services and bringing a strategic, user-centred approach to change. You apply the Government Service Standard and design principles, to create services that are accessible, inclusive, and effective.

Working within multidisciplinary teams, you engage with service owners, operational colleagues and other specialists to understand how services work, identify opportunities for improvement, use evidence and insight to inform decisions, and design services across digital and non-digital channels that deliver positive impact for users and the organisation.

You collaborate across teams and organisational boundaries, including with partners across the Criminal Justice System and wider cross-government design community.

You report to the Lead Service Designer, and as a senior member of the profession, you also contribute to the growth of service design capability across CPS. You share good practice, support and mentor colleagues, and champion the value of service design with stakeholders at all levels.

The Crown Prosecution Service is based in England and Wales. If you’re applying for this role and live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you must let us know when accepting this offer as you need permission to work from your home address if hybrid working is part of your role. There’s no guarantee that we will grant this approval.

You must be aged 16 or over at the point of starting in this role. The expected start date is approximately 8–12 weeks after the application closing date. Candidates are expected to commence employment as soon as possible following the expiry of their notice period. Requests for significantly later start dates may not be accommodated.

As part of this role, you are expected to undertake direct line management responsibilities.
