Job summary
The Senior Business Operations Manager (SEO) is the senior staff officer within Headquarters Army Welfare Service (HQ AWS), working directly to the Commanding Officer AWS. The Business Support function is responsible for the effective coordination of corporate activity, governance, resources and business operations across AWS.
The role provides strategic oversight of workforce planning, civilian recruitment, HR coordination, finance, contracts, information management and business support services, ensuring that organisational resources are aligned to support the delivery of Army Welfare Service outputs and Army operational effectiveness. Acting as a trusted deputy to the Commanding Officer, the post holder works closely with senior leaders, Area Teams and external stakeholders to drive performance, continuous improvement and organisational effectiveness.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
Main Role Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the HQ AWS Business Support function, ensuring the effective delivery of corporate services, governance and administrative support across the organisation.
- Act as principal adviser to the Commanding Officer AWS on business operations, workforce management and organisational performance, deputising and representing the organisation when required.
- Maintain oversight of the AWS establishment, coordinating workforce planning, civilian recruitment activity and HR-related matters to ensure organisational capability and compliance.
- Direct the management of business resources, including finance, procurement, contracts, travel, training, information management and IT support arrangements.
- Develop and implement efficient business processes, driving continuous improvement and modernisation to enhance organisational effectiveness and service delivery.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring coordinated activity, effective communication and delivery of organisational priorities.
Person specification
Essential Skills Required:
- Demonstrable leadership experience, with the credibility and confidence to influence senior stakeholders, provide strategic direction and act as an effective deputy to senior leaders.
- Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate complex activity and deliver outcomes within demanding timescales.
- Proven ability to analyse complex issues, exercise sound judgement and develop practical, evidence-based solutions in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience of building productive relationships across teams, functions and external organisations.
- Strong commitment to professional standards, integrity and confidentiality, with the ability to manage sensitive information appropriately and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications, including SharePoint and Microsoft Teams, with experience of using digital collaboration and information management tools to support business operations.
