About the role
Location: Wigan Magistrates & Family Court, Darlington Street, Wigan, Lancashire, WN1 1DW
Pay Rate: £12.86 per hour for the first 12 weeks, rising to £13.25 per hour thereafter
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm
Assignment Length: Until 31 March 2027
Potential Extension: Yes
Working Pattern: Fully office-based
Clearance Required: Enhanced DBS (to be provided by Brook Street for successful applicants)
About the Role
We are currently recruiting for an Admin Officer with occasional Usher duties to join HM Courts & Tribunals Service in Wigan. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the effective administration of the justice system while supporting court users, legal professionals and members of the public.
Working within a busy court environment, you will undertake a range of administrative responsibilities and occasionally support court operations through ushering duties to ensure hearings run smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative Duties
- Preparing papers and files for courts, tribunals, hearings and meetings.
- Producing court documents and correspondence.
- Creating, updating and maintaining records on internal systems.
- Data entry and case management administration.
- Drafting standard letters and documents.
- Managing incoming and outgoing post.
- Filing, scanning, printing and general office administration.
Court Support and Ushering Duties
- Supporting the smooth running of court hearings and tribunals.
- Welcoming judiciary, jurors, solicitors, barristers, police officers, witnesses and members of the public.
- Calling parties into courtrooms and hearing rooms in the correct order.
- Liaising with Court Clerks, Legal Advisers and the Witness Service.
- Providing information relating to proceedings.
- Escorting court users throughout the building when required.
- Administering oaths where appropriate.
- Keeping parties informed of changes to hearing times and courtroom locations.
- Delivering files and documents to judiciary and court staff.
- Preparing courtrooms and hearing rooms before proceedings and clearing them afterwards.
- Supporting in-person, video-link and remote hearings.
- Assisting members of the public attending court.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous administration experience.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Good IT and data entry skills.
- The ability to prioritise work effectively in a busy environment.
- A professional and confident approach when dealing with a wide range of people.
- The ability to work accurately under pressure.
- A flexible and proactive attitude.
