About the role
Engineering Delivery Manager
Location: Glasgow – 3 days per week on-site
Rate: £565 per day Umbrella
Duration: 6 months initially
Role Overview
Thales are seeking an Engineering Delivery Manager / Systems Engineering Manager to support several projects with a major international customer within the Maritime sector. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across a portfolio of engineering projects at different stages of the systems lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide engineering delivery leadership across multiple projects and workstreams operating at varying stages of the systems lifecycle.
- Address engineering management shortfalls and establish appropriate technical governance, processes, controls and delivery assurance.
- Lead and coordinate engineering activities across systems, hardware, integration, verification and validation disciplines.
- Manage the technical delivery of equipment, ensuring appropriate integration, verification, test and acceptance activities are planned and executed.
- Review engineering maturity, identify technical gaps and develop recovery/improvement plans where required.
- Identify, assess and manage technical risks, dependencies, interfaces and engineering constraints.
- Develop strategic plans to reduce accumulated technical debt and improve system maintainability, reliability and lifecycle performance.
- Identify emerging technology and component obsolescence risks and develop appropriate mitigation, replacement or redesign strategies.
- Support engineering decision-making through technical analysis, lifecycle assessment and risk-based prioritisation.
- Ensure engineering deliverables, technical documentation and evidence are aligned with required verification, validation and acceptance criteria.
- Work closely with engineering, programme, suppliers and customer stakeholders to ensure technical issues are driven through to resolution.
- Provide technical status, engineering risk and delivery reporting to senior stakeholders.
Key Skillset
Essential
- Proven experience in Engineering Delivery Management, Systems Engineering Management or a closely related senior engineering leadership role.
- Strong Systems Engineering and/or Hardware Engineering background.
- Demonstrable experience working across the full systems lifecycle and V-model.
- Experience managing the technical delivery of complex engineering systems and physical equipment.
- Strong understanding of systems integration, verification and validation methodologies.
- Experience identifying and managing technical debt, engineering risk and system lifecycle issues.
- Proven experience managing obsolescence and technology lifecycle risks.
- Ability to operate effectively across multiple projects at different levels of technical and lifecycle maturity.
- Strong technical leadership capability, with the ability to challenge engineering decisions and drive resolution of complex technical issues.
Desirable
- Previous experience within the Maritime, Naval, Defence, Aerospace or other safety/mission-critical engineering environments.
- Experience working with complex Systems or hardware.
- Experience working with suppliers and managing equipment integration and acceptance.
- Familiarity with recognised Systems Engineering standards and lifecycle frameworks.
