Highway Inspector

Our client, a prominent organisation in the public sector, is seeking a diligent Highway Inspector to join their team on a contract basis. This role involves carrying out essential safety inspections of highways, managing minor repairs, and responding to service requests from residents. Key Responsibilities:

• Undertake routine safety inspections of the highway
• Inspect work by contractors and statutory undertakers, ensuring quality and compliance with specifications
• Programme and conduct minor surveys and census work
• Utilise available equipment for inspection, measurement, or recording purposes
• Maintain knowledge on construction methods, materials, and legislative matters
• Work out of hours for site inspection, recording, and supervision
• Respond to service requests from residents
• Perform pre and post highway licence inspections
• Liaise with contractors and statutory undertakers on site
• Address complaints and queries from the public in accordance with the Customer Response Management system

Job Requirements:

• Experience in highway inspection and maintenance
• Knowledge of construction methods and materials
• Understanding of relevant legislative matters
• Ability to work outside regular hours when needed
• Proficiency in using inspection and measurement equipment
• Strong communication skills for liaising with contractors and resolving public complaints
• Capability to draft reports and correspondence
• Attention to detail in conducting inspections and surveys

Additional Responsibilities:

• Produce preliminary designs for minor schemes
• Inspect work by statutory undertakers for quality and compliance
• Support the Maintenance Manager in fostering a quality management and customer care approach
• Supervise minor maintenance contracts and issue works orders
• Prepare estimates, reports, and manage engineering duties such as material testing
• Oversee the annual surface dressing programme and site investigation reports
• Supervise all stages of relevant engineering works
• Assist in staff induction and participate in recruitment processes
