About the role

Zest Education is currently recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Tamworth. This is a full-time opportunity starting in September, supporting a Year 5 pupil with Autism on an ongoing basis.

This rewarding role is ideal for a Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping them achieve their full potential in a nurturing and inclusive school environment.

About the Role

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a Year 5 pupil with Autism, providing tailored support throughout the school day. You will play a key role in helping the child access learning, build confidence, and develop positive relationships with peers and staff.

Working alongside the class teacher, SENDCO, and wider school team, you will implement strategies that support the pupil’s academic progress, emotional wellbeing, and independence.

The school is looking for someone who is patient, understanding, and able to build a positive and trusting relationship with the child.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 5 pupil with Autism.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet the pupil’s individual needs.
  • Support classroom engagement and participation in lessons.
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and social development.
  • Implement SEND support strategies and routines consistently.
  • Work closely with teaching staff to monitor progress and wellbeing.
  • Support the pupil during transitions and throughout the school day.
  • Help create a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will:

  • Have experience working with children in a school or educational setting.
  • Have knowledge or experience of supporting pupils with Autism and additional learning needs.
  • Be patient, caring, and resilient.
  • Have excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Be able to remain calm and adaptable when responding to pupils’ needs.
  • Be committed to helping every child achieve their full potential.
  • Hold a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
