The Transport Team plays a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Agency by ensuring staff, visitors, facilities and resources are connected efficiently and safely. Working across a range of locations, the team is responsible for transport services, vehicle management, mail and equipment deliveries, and wider operational support activities.
As part of a collaborative and customer-focused environment, you will help maintain a professional transport service while contributing to the smooth running of Estates operations. The team works closely with colleagues across the Agency, providing practical solutions, excellent customer service and ensuring compliance with health, safety, security and environmental standards. Job description
We are looking for a reliable and customer-focused individual to provide a professional transport service for staff, visitors and Agency resources across multiple locations. The role combines driving responsibilities with operational and administrative support, including vehicle checks, mail and equipment deliveries, record keeping, and vehicle maintenance coordination. Working as part of the Transport Team, you will help ensure services run efficiently, safely and in line with Agency standards and policies.
Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:
- This is primarily a driving role, transferring DVLA staff and other visitors between DVLA and its satellite buildings and car parks by Agency transport. Also, managing the collection and delivery of mail and other items as required. When not driving you will be required to carry out general admin duties within the Transport Team.
- To meet Customer/Agency internal business targets and standards for the specific business area of responsibility.
- Respond to enquiries and ensure the most sustainable form of transport is used for all journeys.
- Basic daily check of vehicles, reporting any incidents (i.e. traffic offences) whilst on duty and any damage to Agency vehicles.
- Collate and record statistical or transport data, report and action as necessary.
- Report vehicle faults to the manager.
- Adhere to Health & Safety Policies, Data Protection, Security Policies and understand relevant employment law.

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:
- Experience in safely transporting staff, visitors, and goods between multiple locations, ensuring efficient journey planning and promoting the most sustainable transport options.
- Responsible for conducting routine vehicle inspections, reporting faults and damage, arranging MOTs, servicing and repairs, and ensuring vehicles remain roadworthy and compliant with health and safety standards.
- Providing a professional service when responding to enquiries, escorting visitors, conducting vehicle familiarisation/test drives, and supporting colleagues with transport and equipment delivery requirements.
- Maintaining accurate records and transport statistics, managing mail and equipment deliveries, reporting incidents, and supporting wider Estates team operations while adhering to security, data protection and organisational policies.
Essential Criteria/Licences
- Due to insurance restrictions, we are unable to offer this role to any candidates under the age of 30.
- Full UK driving licence with no more than 6 points which has been held for a minimum of 2 years. If you do not already hold a D1 category on your driving licence and DQC card then you must be willing to work towards these and complete all the necessary training once in post.
Additional Information

Welsh language skills could be useful in this role, but it is not an assessment criterion, so it won’t put you at any disadvantage during recruitment if you aren’t a Welsh speaker. Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements
Full time roles consist of 37 hours per week.
Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 35 hours per week, over 5 days.
The working hours for this role will be allocated on a rota basis of predominantly shift patterns covering 7am-3pm, 8am-4pm or 9am-5pm. There are occasions when the DVLA Park & Ride service will need to be covered by a member of the Transport Team, and this service runs from approximately 6:15am-6:45pm. You will be notified in advance of when you will be required to cover this service.
This role is not suitable for hybrid working and will require the successful candidate to work solely from their designated workplace (one of the locations cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, from other offices/work locations/visiting stakeholders.
