Job description

This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape policy on connected and emerging vehicle technologies, helping to maximise innovation while managing risks around safety, data protection and cyber resilience. Working closely with ministers, government departments, industry and international stakeholders, you will support the safe deployment of new vehicle technologies and influence standards development. Based in the International Vehicle Standards Division, the role contributes to improving road safety, environmental outcomes and the future regulation of transport technologies.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:

• Lead the collaboration across the Department to deliver Connected Vehicle Services
• Lead work to secure access to historical emergency call (eCall) data
• Shaping discussions across Government on the risks around connected vehicles
• Task management of 2 SEOs

Person specification

This role requires someone who can demonstrate:

• Experience of delivering policy in an uncertain and complex environment
• Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team (e.g. working with/for legal, financial and technical experts)
• Explaining complex, technical and sometimes sensitive issues in a clear comprehensible way to a diverse set of stakeholders
• Experience of working on data and digital programmes
• Experience of working in national security - the role requires DV clearance. You should either have clearance already or be willing to secure it.

Additional Information

The successful candidate must either hold or be willing to work towards the Government Project Delivery Accreditation once in role.

Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements

Full time roles consist of 37 hours per week.

Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 22 hours per week.

This role is suitable for hybrid working, which is a non-contractual arrangement where a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements.

The expectation at present is a minimum of 60% of your working time a month will be spent at either your designated workplace (one of the locations cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, in another office/work location/visiting stakeholders. Your designated workplace will be your contractual place of work. There may be occasions where you are required to attend above the minimum expectation.

Regular travel, sometimes with short notice, to other offices will be required, which may involve overnight stays.
