Principal Traffic Engineer

Our client, a prominent entity in the Highways sector, is currently seeking a Principal Traffic Engineer to join their team on a contract basis. This role is critical in leading the technical team in planning, investigation, and the delivery of traffic and parking engineering measures and schemes. This is an exciting opportunity to play a significant role in the management and execution of high-profile traffic engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Leading the technical team in the planning, investigation, and delivery of traffic and parking engineering measures and schemes
• Overseeing the identification, appraisal, and design of traffic and parking schemes
• Managing budgets, contracts, and projects to ensure full compliance with organisational policies and procedures
• Procuring and supervising consultancy and design services in line with transport strategy objectives
• Supporting the Transport and Projects Manager in organising technical staff and administering the service
• Preparing and presenting committee reports, technical reports, and briefing notes
• Representing the service and deputising for the Transport and Projects Manager when necessary
• Providing expert advice and maintaining effective communication with stakeholders, including senior officers and elected members

Job Requirements:

• Extensive experience in traffic engineering within the Highways sector
• Strong knowledge of traffic and parking engineering principles and relevant legislation
• Proven ability to manage budgets, contracts, and complex projects
• Experience leading and developing technical teams
• Strong understanding of local government environments and stakeholder engagement
• Experience preparing reports and presenting in formal settings
• Proficiency in relevant tools such as CAD, GIS, or similar systems
