About the role
Senior Mechanical Estimator – Net Zero Teesside Role Purpose Responsible for pricing change, capturing operational risks, and ensuring the accurate and effective delivery of estimating services during project execution, in compliance with contract requirements and project estimating strategies. Key ResponsibilitiesAct as a senior member of the Estimating team, managing workload and allocating estimating resources across assigned bid teams.Undertake the role of Estimator where required.Support customer cost forecasting and reporting requirements.Review drawings and specifications to prepare accurate cost estimates for labour, materials, equipment and plant.Review contract requirements and ensure all financial information and compliant technical proposals are included.Establish key plant rates and agree estimating methodologies with engineering and planning teams.Carry out detailed analysis of subcontractor quotations and pricing submissions.Prepare preliminary and general expense pricing, plant schedules and risk assessments.Prepare settlement papers and undertake pricing adjustments where necessary.Review and approve cost elements prior to commercial submission.Work closely with specialist contractors and suppliers to maintain accurate cost forecasts and reports.Ensure specialist expertise is engaged to optimise design, specification, programme and value engineering opportunities.Produce cost information and reports for senior management.Respond to customer queries and participate in commercial and technical discussions.Provide effective handover documentation to project delivery and commercial teams.Contribute to customer meetings and presentations throughout the project lifecycle.Lead the development and implementation of digital estimating tools, including 5D cost planning solutions.Mentor and support Estimators and bid team members through technical and commercial guidance.Carry out measurement take-offs, pricing activities and estimating system updates.Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality and sustainability throughout all estimating activities. Experience & Qualifications Essential:Experience estimating site erection and installation manhours for major mechanical equipment including:HRSG Boilers (2000+ tonnes)Steam Turbine Generators (500MW+)Bespoke mechanical equipmentModular/skid-based plant systemsStrong knowledge of high-integrity and exotic pipework systems.Experience tendering projects within petrochemical, power generation, nuclear, process or other highly regulated environments.Experience pricing and developing customer material take-offs (MTOs).Previous experience managing the estimating process on major engineering or construction projects.Valid CSCS card.Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and estimating software packages.Desirable:Membership of a recognised professional body such as RICS, CIOB, ICE or CIBSE.Knowledge of Lean Construction and 5D cost planning methodologies.Experience working with BIM models and producing associated reports.Experience operating under NAECI labour agreements.Previous experience leading or mentoring estimating teamsThe NRL Group connect global companies with the right people to bring engineering projects to life.
