About the role

What will you be doing?

Kent County Council (KCC) is one of the largest local authorities in the country, delivering a wide range of essential services to local communities.

We are looking for two highly organised and proactive Business Support Officers to provide a comprehensive, coordinated and high-quality business support service across the Infrastructure and Technology divisions. These are key roles supporting managers and teams to operate effectively through the provision of professional administrative, governance and business support activities.

Whilst every day can be different, on a typical day you will provide a wide range of business support services, manage information, maintain records and support the effective delivery of divisional priorities. You will be responsible for organising and supporting meetings, preparing agendas and papers, taking accurate minutes where required, tracking actions and ensuring these are monitored through to completion.

The role requires excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities within a busy and fast-paced environment. You will be expected to prepare and format professional correspondence, reports and presentations, maintain electronic filing systems and databases, and ensure information is managed accurately and appropriately.

You will work closely with managers, colleagues and stakeholders across the organisation, providing responsive and customer-focused support whilst contributing to the continuous improvement of business support processes. The ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and maintain confidentiality at all times is essential.

The role will involve regular communication with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and supporting meetings both virtually and in person.

What we are looking for

We're seeking someone who has:

- Experience of providing business support, administrative or governance support within a busy office environment.

- Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.

- Experience of arranging and supporting meetings, including the preparation of agendas, minute-taking and action tracking.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate and professional documentation.

- Good attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy.

- Strong IT skills, including confident use of Microsoft Office applications and digital collaboration tools.

- The ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues, customers and stakeholders at all levels.

- A proactive approach to problem solving and the ability to take ownership of tasks through to completion.

- The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.

- A flexible and collaborative approach, with a commitment to delivering excellent customer service and continuous improvement.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

These roles offer an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and experience within a large and diverse organisation, supporting services that make a difference to the people of Kent.
