SEN Teaching Assistant - BSL Qualified Required Are you passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities? Do you have British Sign Language (BSL) qualifications and experience working with deaf children?
We are currently recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND Deaf School in Wandsworth. This rewarding role involves supporting deaf pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is committed to helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential in a specialist educational setting.
The Role As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
  • Provide classroom and one-to-one support for deaf pupils with additional SEND needs.
    • Use British Sign Language (BSL) effectively to communicate with students and support their learning.
    • Assist pupils with Autism, SEMH, and other complex needs both academically and emotionally.
    • Encourage independence, confidence, and social development.
    • Support teachers in delivering engaging and accessible learning activities.
    • Monitor and record student progress where required.
    • Promote positive behaviour and contribute to a safe, inclusive learning environment.
    • Work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and other professionals to ensure the best outcomes for pupils.
The Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who:
  • Holds a recognised British Sign Language (BSL) qualification (Level 2 or above preferred).
    • Has experience working with deaf children and young people.
    • Has previous experience supporting pupils with Autism, SEMH, or other Special Educational Needs.
    • Possesses strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrates patience, empathy, and resilience.
    • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
    • Can work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
