We’re currently recruiting for a Graduate Teaching Assistant to join a Secondary School in Newcastle on a long-term, short-term, or temp-to-perm basis, starting in September.

You’ll be joining a supportive and inclusive secondary school that is committed to helping every young person reach their full potential. With a strong focus on wellbeing, mental health, and inclusive education, the school provides an environment where students are encouraged to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

This role is ideal for a Psychology graduate looking to gain meaningful, hands-on experience before pursuing a career in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Counselling, Social Work, or another child-focused profession.

Working alongside experienced teachers, SEND professionals and pastoral staff, you’ll gain valuable insight into child development, behaviour, emotional regulation and additional learning needs while making a genuine difference to the lives of young people.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Providing one-to-one and small group support to students with a range of learning, behavioural, social, emotional and mental health needs.
• Building positive, trusting relationships that promote confidence, resilience and engagement in learning.
• Supporting students with emotional regulation, communication and positive behaviour strategies.
• Assisting teachers in delivering engaging lessons and adapting learning activities to meet individual needs.
• Delivering targeted academic and wellbeing interventions to help students overcome barriers to learning.
• Working closely with teachers, SENDCOs, pastoral teams and external professionals to support students’ progress and wellbeing.
• Monitoring student progress and contributing observations that help inform support strategies and individual learning plans.

Requirements or Skills:

• A degree in Psychology (or due to graduate this year) is highly desirable.
• An interest in pursuing a career in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Mental Health, Therapy or another child-focused profession.
• A genuine passion for supporting young people’s learning, wellbeing and personal development.
• Strong communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
• Good literacy and numeracy skills.
• Experience working with children or young people through volunteering, mentoring, tutoring, coaching, youth work or care settings is desirable but not essential.
• A resilient, empathetic and proactive approach with the ability to build positive relationships.
• Confidence working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary school team.

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
