Main Purpose of the Role

To play a lead role in delivering Trading Standards enforcement activities that protect consumers, support legitimate businesses, and promote a fair and safe trading Consumer environment. The role involves leading complex investigations, providing specialist advice, managing multi-agency projects, mentoring colleagues, and deputising for the Team Manager when required to ensure effective service delivery.

Typical Day Overview

• Conduct inspections and Trading Standards investigations.
• Provide advice to businesses and consumers.
• Gather and analyse intelligence.
• Prepare case files and attend court when required.
• Lead or support multi-agency enforcement operations.
• Mentor and support colleagues.
• Liaise with partner agencies and stakeholders.
• Ensure investigations comply with legal and service standards.
• Respond to operational priorities, including occasional out-of-hours work

• Prepare legal case files and represent the service in court when required.

Requirements / Qualifications

• Food Qualified (preferred). Alternatively, candidates with a Trading Standards Level 4 qualification will be considered.
• Diploma in Trading Standards, or Diploma in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards (DCATS)/Diploma in Consumer Affairs (DCA), or Stage 2 of the CTSI Professional Competency Framework (Trading Standards Practitioner Diploma).
• Valid UK Driving Licence.
• Must be Police Vetted (or able to obtain and maintain the required police vetting).
• Able to pass and maintain Non-Police Personnel Level 2 (Full) Vetting.
