About the role
Following retirement within the team, we are pleased to offer an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated professional to join our Internal Audit Service in the senior position of Auditor.
In this pivotal role, you will help deliver a comprehensive and diverse programme of internal audit work for the Council and our external clients. You will lead on complex and high‑profile reviews, provide insightful analysis, and offer expert advice to stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
As a central part of the Council’s governance and assurance framework, the Internal Audit Service plays a key role in shaping and informing decision‑making across the County Council and its partner organisations. Your work will provide a primary source of assurance on strategic and operational objectives, strengthening controls, and supporting the achievement of successful organisational outcomes.
We are committed to supporting a positive work–life balance and offer flexible working arrangements, including hybrid working, to help you thrive both personally and professionally while meeting the needs of the service.
Main ResponsibilitiesAs a senior member of the team, you will report directly to a Senior Audit Manager and take responsibility for delivering a wide range of complex, systems‑based audits across the Council, as well as providing project support within agreed timescales and quality standards.
Your role will also include:
- Collaborating with stakeholders across the Council and Partner Organisations, including Members, Directors, and Senior Management.
- Supervising, supporting, and developing other team members.
- Assisting with counter‑fraud activities and special investigations under the direction of the Counter Fraud Audit Manager.
For full details of the key accountabilities for this role, please refer to the attached Job Description.
The Ideal CandidateWe are looking for you to have strong risk‑based audit and advisory experience, and a proven track record of delivering a planned programme of work. You should be attuned to emerging risks, new technologies, and innovation, while also supporting the safeguarding of processes and assets as the Council explores new ways to create and deliver value across its operations.
It's essential you can demonstrate:
- CCAB qualification (preferably CIPFA) or CMIIA qualification.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- A thorough, logical, and self‑motivated approach, with the ability to work independently and meet critical deadlines.
- Proven experience in an audit environment, delivering impactful assurance and advisory services.
- The ability to anticipate risks and issues that may affect the organisation’s ability to achieve its objectives.
