Location: Darlington, County Durham
Salary: £110 – £140 per day (depending on experience)
Contract: Full-time, Temporary with the opportunity to become permanent

Are you an experienced and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant looking to make a real impact in a supportive primary school? We are working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Darlington to recruit a dedicated HLTA to join their team from September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity for a confident and motivated practitioner who is passionate about raising standards, supporting pupils to achieve their full potential, and working collaboratively with teachers to deliver high-quality learning experiences across the primary age range.

About the Role

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Deliver high-quality learning activities to whole classes in the absence of the class teacher.
  • Plan, prepare and adapt learning activities in partnership with teaching staff.
  • Support pupils across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, ensuring learning is engaging, inclusive and accessible.
  • Deliver targeted intervention programmes to individuals and small groups, helping pupils make strong academic progress.
  • Support children with SEND, SEMH and additional learning needs through tailored strategies and inclusive practice.
  • Promote positive behaviour and create a safe, nurturing learning environment.
  • Assess and monitor pupil progress, providing feedback to teachers to inform future planning.
  • Work closely with class teachers, SENDCOs, parents and the wider school team to ensure every child receives the support they need.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school through clubs, enrichment activities and school events where appropriate.

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Holds HLTA status or has substantial experience working at HLTA level within a primary school.
  • Has experience supporting learning across the primary curriculum.
  • Is confident leading whole-class learning and managing behaviour effectively.
  • Has excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrates a positive, flexible and proactive approach to supporting pupils and colleagues.
  • Has experience supporting children with SEND and adapting learning to meet individual needs.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Holds (or is willing to apply for) an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service.
