Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Primary Supply Teacher to provide high-quality teaching support within primary schools across Darlington. The role involves delivering lessons in line with the national curriculum, maintaining a positive and inclusive learning environment, and ensuring continuity of education for pupils during periods of staff absence. The position is temporary and part-time, offering an excellent opportunity for professionals to contribute to the educational development of children in the local community.

Job Duties

  • Deliver engaging and effective lessons to primary school pupils, adhering to the national curriculum and school policies.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and stimulating learning environment that encourages pupil participation and achievement.
  • Adapt teaching approaches and resources to meet the diverse needs and abilities of pupils.
  • Manage classroom behaviour in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Assess pupils’ progress and provide constructive feedback to support learning and development.
  • Liaise with permanent teaching staff and school leadership to ensure a smooth transition for pupils on the return of the regular teacher.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and promote the welfare and wellbeing of all pupils.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Complete administrative tasks related to lesson planning, assessment, and reporting.

Required Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check clearance or willingness to undertake one prior to employment.

Education

  • Degree-level qualification in Education or a relevant subject.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in teaching and learning.

Experience

  • Experience teaching within primary education, preferably across a range of key stages.
  • Proven ability to manage classroom behaviour effectively.
  • Experience working in supply teaching roles or similar temporary teaching positions is advantageous.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the primary national curriculum and assessment frameworks.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with pupils, parents, and school staff.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to suit the needs of individual pupils and groups.
  • Organisational skills to manage lesson planning, delivery, and administrative duties efficiently.
  • Understanding of safeguarding policies and a commitment to pupil welfare.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology and resources to enhance teaching and learning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in delivering interventions or support for pupils with additional needs.
  • Training in first aid or child protection.
  • Familiarity with local education authority policies and procedures.

Working Conditions

  • The role involves working in a variety of primary school settings within Darlington and the surrounding areas.
  • Part-time hours, with flexibility required to cover short-notice assignments.
  • Work includes standing for long periods and active engagement with pupils in classroom activities.
  • Potential requirement for travel between schools within the local area; mileage expenses may be reimbursed in line with policy.
