About the role
Join the British Transport Police Cadets – A place to grow, lead, and make a difference.
Are you 13–17, living in London, and looking for something exciting to be part of this year?
Want to build confidence, try new things, and meet new people?
Then the BTP Cadets in Islington could be exactly what you’re looking for.
What Are BTP Cadets?
We’re a national youth programme for young people who want to:
- Get involved in real community projects
- Learn about policing in a safe, supported environment
- Develop teamwork, leadership, and life skills
- Make friends and have fun doing something that matters
You don’t need any experience. You don’t need to want a career in policing.
You just need enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to try something new.
What You’ll Get Out of It
Learn Skills You’ll Actually Use
From communication and first aid to problem‑solving and teamwork — every session helps build your confidence.
Make a Difference Locally
You’ll help with community events, local projects, safety initiatives, and support the people who live and work around you.
Try Experiences You Can’t Get Anywhere Else
Visits to specialist police units, team‑building challenges, parades, volunteering events, and more.
Yes — you’ll get your own cadet uniform, too.
Earn Awards
Take part in accredited programmes like the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and other social action projects that look great on college, apprenticeship, or job applications.
Join a Supportive Community
Make friends, find mentors, and be part of a group that genuinely wants to see you succeed.
Who Can Join?
- Young people aged 13–17
- We are currently recruiting for our Islington Cadet Unit only
What Do Sessions Look Like?
Every week is different, but you might be:
- Learning about policing and the law
- Planning or taking part in community projects
- Supporting neighbourhood events
- Visiting specialist departments
- Building leadership and teamwork skills
- Getting hands‑on with practical activities
Everyone Is Welcome
BTP is committed to giving opportunities to young people from every background — including those looking for a positive new start.
This is a space where you can grow, feel supported, and be part of something good.
Spaces Are Limited
We may close recruitment early depending on numbers — so don’t wait.
