Tips for a cover letter that gets read
- Keep it to one page. Employers skim, so make every line earn its place.
- Name the role and the company. A letter that could be sent to anyone gets treated like it was.
- Back up your strengths with a quick example where you can, rather than just listing adjectives.
- Match a few words to the job advert. If it asks for reliability and teamwork, use those words.
- Read it out loud before you send it, and check the company name is spelled correctly.
Once your letter is ready, pair it with a sharp CV. Run through our CV checklist to make sure yours is doing its job.
