About the role
Electoral Canvassers
Northumberland County Council, Electoral Service is looking to recruit for temporary door-knock canvassers who are committed to providing an efficient, effective and customer focused service to the residents of Northumberland.
Job details
Every year the council has a legal duty to undertake a canvass of households and produce a revised Register of Electors by 1 December which list all the people registered to vote
We are looking for enthusiastic, flexible individuals to assist with the annual canvass. We want to you to visit households in an allocated area at suitable times when the residents are expected to be at home, including evenings and weekends to encourage completion of the Canvass Form.
To be right for this role you will need to:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have access to your own transport which must have business insurance cover
- Have excellent communication skills; both written and oral, and the ability to work alone in outdoor conditions.
Essential requirements:
- Attend an informal web-based discussion. Further information will be provided to successful candidates.
- You will be required to collect stationery from County Hall, Morpeth on Monday 7th September 2026. Time slots will be confirmed closer to the date.
We are offering:
- An hourly rate of £12.85 (in addition, annual leave pay will be accrued for hours worked)
- You will be paid the NJC mileage for all agreed mileage incurred.
- Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme (or other pension scheme)
