RQ1743449 (PM) – Refuse Driver

The Waste Management Operative Driver/Loader is responsible for delivering a reliable, safe, and efficient waste and recycling collection service across the district. This role is essential in helping to keep communities clean, protecting public health, and supporting the Council’s environmental objectives. A typical day starts with vehicle safety checks and a team briefing before following planned collection routes. The successful candidate will drive or support the collection vehicle, safely collect household, commercial and recyclable waste, operate vehicle lifting equipment where required, and ensure all work is completed in line with health and safety procedures. They will also assist with unloading waste at authorised disposal or recycling facilities, complete required records, and report any issues such as missed collections, vehicle defects or hazardous waste. The role requires excellent teamwork, physical fitness, a strong commitment to customer service, and the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. The successful candidate will represent the Council professionally, support colleagues, and contribute to delivering a high-quality service for residents and businesses.

To deliver a safe, efficient and high-quality waste and recycling collection service by operating collection vehicles and/or working as part of a collection crew. The postholder is responsible for collecting, transporting and disposing of waste in accordance with legislation, health and safety requirements, and Council policies, while providing excellent customer service and helping to maintain clean, safe and sustainable communities.
