EHV Technical Lead

Our client, a leading organisation in the distribution and transmission sector, is seeking an experienced EHV Technical Lead to join their team. This permanent position will see you providing senior technical authority across the EHV portfolio, encompassing business development, tendering, design, and project delivery activities in the power utilities industry.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership

• Serve as technical authority for EHV projects up to 132kV
• Review and approve technical solutions
• Ensure compliance with DNO, IDNO, and regulatory standards
• Support engineering governance and technical assurance

Opportunity Development

• Lead technical engagement with prospective customers
• Develop innovative connection solutions
• Support framework and strategic bids
• Provide technical leadership during negotiations

Engineering Oversight

• Guide internal and external design teams
• Review substation and cable designs
• Support protection and control philosophy development
• Identify technical risks at early project stages

Industry Engagement

• Interface with DNOs, IDNOs, National Grid, developers, and consultants
• Maintain awareness of industry changes and standards

Capability Development

• Mentor engineers
• Develop technical standards and guidance notes
• Support recruitment and competency development

Experience Required:

Essential

• Significant experience in EHV engineering
• Experience in delivering or designing EHV projects
• Strong understanding of electrical plant, primary systems, protection systems, earthing systems, and power system studies
• Experience working directly with DNOs and IDNOs

Desirable

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status
• Experience acting as Design Approval Engineer
• Experience in renewables, BESS, or data centre connections
