About the role

We are looking for a practical and enthusiastic Estates Operative (Grounds) to join our team at Elmbridge Retirement Village in Cranleigh on a fixed-term contract from July to September. Working 3 days per week from 8.00am to 4.30pm, you will play an important role in maintaining our beautiful grounds and outdoor spaces, helping to create a safe, attractive and welcoming environment for residents, visitors and colleagues.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with gardening or landscaping experience who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in high standards and is passionate about delivering excellent service.

What You'll Be Doing

As part of our Estates team, you will:

  • Maintain lawns, flower beds, hedges, shrubs and woodland areas to a high standard
  • Mow grass, trim hedges, prune trees and care for planting schemes
  • Monitor plant health and identify pests, diseases or maintenance issues
  • Water plants and maintain irrigation systems during warmer weather
  • Keep pathways, roadways and outdoor areas clean, safe and accessible
  • Support the upkeep of village structures, fixtures and outdoor equipment
  • Carry out routine inspections and report maintenance concerns promptly
  • Maintain tools, machinery and equipment, ensuring they are stored safely and kept in good working order
  • Follow all health and safety procedures, including COSHH regulations
  • Complete required compliance checks and maintain accurate records
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver excellent service to residents

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in gardening, landscaping or a related outdoor maintenance role
  • A passion for grounds maintenance and creating attractive outdoor spaces
  • Good practical skills and the ability to use gardening equipment safely
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to work
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively
  • A team-focused attitude with a commitment to excellent customer service
  • Physical stamina and fitness to carry out outdoor duties in all weather conditions
