About the role
“Every voice matters, every communication counts, and every child deserves the opportunity to be heard."
Are you a passionate and skilled teacher with expertise in supporting children and young people with Autism and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)?
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated SEND Teacher with expertise in Autism Spectrum Condition and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). The successful candidate will primarily support autistic pupils, many of whom also present with associated speech, language and communication differences. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant difference to the lives of pupils with a range of communication difficulties, helping them to develop the skills, confidence and independence needed to thrive in school and beyond.
You will be based within our Student Support Centre (SSC), the hub of our SEND provision within a successful and inclusive mainstream secondary school. The SSC is home to our dedicated SEND team, including Teaching Assistants, Academic Tutors, the Deputy SENDCo and SENDCo, who work collaboratively to ensure pupils receive the right support at the right time.
Our provision is flexible and responsive, offering timetabled interventions and targeted teaching for a wide range of pupils with SEND, alongside personalised support that can be adapted quickly to meet emerging needs throughout the school day. We pride ourselves on working collaboratively with pupils, families and external professionals to remove barriers to learning, enabling young people to develop academically, socially and emotionally while remaining fully included within the wider school community.
You will:
- Plan and deliver high-quality, personalised teaching for pupils with SEND, with a particular focus on speech, language and communication (Autism).
- Create a communication-friendly learning environment that promotes engagement, participation and achievement.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, families and multi-agency professionals.
- Assess, monitor and report on pupil progress, adapting provision to meet individual needs.
- Support the development of communication strategies across the school and contribute to staff training and best practice.
We Are Looking For Someone Who:
- Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Has experience working with children and young people with SEND, particularly SLCN and Autism.
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of communication development and evidence-based interventions.
- Is creative, adaptable and committed to inclusive education.
- Builds positive relationships with pupils, families and professionals.
- Has high expectations and a commitment to ensuring every child reaches their full potential.
