The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Surface Design Engineer to join a world-class Formula 1 engineering team.

Working within a highly competitive aerodynamic development environment, you will be responsible for creating and developing high-quality Class-A surfaces that support the design, manufacture, and performance objectives of the race car. This role would suit a surfacing specialist with Formula 1 experience who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where attention to detail and technical excellence are critical.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and develop complex Class-A and engineering surfaces for aerodynamic and mechanical components.
• Work closely with Aerodynamics, Design, and Manufacturing teams to ensure surfaces are optimised for performance and production.
• Produce high-quality CAD geometry to support the development and release of race car components.
• Ensure all surfacing work meets quality, continuity, and manufacturing requirements.
• Support rapid design iterations in line with demanding Formula 1 development programmes.
• Participate in design reviews and provide surfacing expertise across a variety of projects.
• Maintain CAD data integrity and adhere to internal design and release processes.

Requirements

• Previous experience working as a Surface Designer or Surface Design Engineer within Formula 1.
• Minimum of 2-3 years' experience in an F1 surfacing role.
• Strong understanding of Class-A surfacing principles and best practices.
• Proficiency with industry-standard CAD software used within motorsport environments.
• Experience working with aerodynamic surfaces and performance-driven geometry.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality work within tight deadlines.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Desirable Experience

• Experience supporting race car development programmes.
• Knowledge of composite manufacturing considerations.
• Understanding of aerodynamic development workflows within Formula 1.
• Experience working in a highly regulated, performance-focused engineering environment.
