About the role

Candor Vets is delighted to present an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Veterinary Surgeon to join an independent, RCVS-accredited small animal hospital in Bridgend, South Wales. This is a flexible senior position designed for a vet who thrives on high-quality general practice work, emergency care, and has a passion for mentoring and developing less experienced colleagues.

The Role

Our client is seeking a confident Senior Vet who enjoys both excellent first-opinion practice and the development of others. The successful candidate should be comfortable with emergency medicine and surgery, happy to support recent graduates, and keen to contribute to training, mentoring, and clinical standards across the hospital. The role can be shaped as either a 5-day per week first on-call position or a 4-day per week senior back-up position supporting the first on-call vets. The best fit will depend on your experience, interests, and preferred level of out-of-hours (OOH) responsibility.

For the senior back-up role, the current pattern is a 4-day week with 8-hour shifts, 1 in 4 weekend mornings caring for hospital inpatients, and 1 in 4 rota’d as second on call OOH. For the first on-call role, the pattern is 7 nights per rota followed by 7 days recovery, plus 2 weekend mornings across an 11-week rota.

About the Area

Bridgend is conveniently located between Cardiff and Swansea, offering excellent M4 links. The area provides easy access to the coast and beautiful walking opportunities, including the Brecon Beacons.

  • 33 days holiday, with the option to purchase an additional 5 days

  • CPD allowance of 5 days and £1,500, with enhanced CPD support available for Advanced Practitioners

  • RCVS, VDS, and one additional professional membership paid
