An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Farm Vet to join a well-established, RCVS-accredited rural mixed practice in Kelso, in the Scottish Borders. This practice boasts an established beef and sheep client base, alongside small animal and equine services.
The practice is well-equipped with essentials including phase contrast microscopy, Pulsator-V, and both linear and curvilinear ultrasound scanners. Excellent support is available from experienced colleagues, including a number of certificate holders and those enrolled in certificate programmes.
This position will mainly involve working with progressive suckler farms, offering routine services from pelvimetry, AI, and bull testing through to pregnancy scanning and blood sampling, in addition to any emergency work.
There is also the opportunity to work with pedigree sheep flocks, as well as enthusiastic and progressive commercial sheep farms through a dedicated Flock Health Club. An interest in herd and flock health planning is essential. The role includes an equally shared, farm-only out-of-hours rota.
The practice is keen to welcome a vet who has gained solid initial experience in a farm or mixed practice role and is able to work confidently and independently whilst participating in the farm-only out-of-hours rota without immediate backup. The successful candidate will enjoy working as part of an experienced and enthusiastic team, providing excellent clinical care and will be keen to develop their skills.
The practice enjoys the benefits of being a rural practice but with excellent links to both Edinburgh and Newcastle. The Scottish Borders offers an excellent base for outdoor pursuits, and the team are members of local hockey and rugby teams, triathlon clubs, and support various youth clubs and other organisations. There is also a great local agricultural show circuit and active Young Farmers and Agricultural Discussion groups.
