About the role

This is a Night Veterinary Surgeon role based in a purpose-built hospital in Barnsley. The position offers a true emergency and critical care focus within a non-profit organisation.

The Role

This is a dedicated night service, fully supported by a large day team providing both first opinion and referral care. That means real continuity. You are not operating in isolation. Cases can be handed over properly, followed through, and discussed with colleagues who know the patient and the hospital. The caseload is exactly what you would hope for in a busy ECC setting. Surgical emergencies, complex medical cases, and in-house orthopaedics. It is varied, hands-on, and genuinely interesting.

The Practice

We are working with a purpose-built hospital in Barnsley that has built its reputation on accessible, affordable emergency care. Their out-of-hours service runs with a transparent £79 consultation fee, removing one of the biggest barriers clients face and allowing you to focus on treatment decisions rather than financial conflict. This organisation operates as a Community Interest Company. Profit is not the primary driver. Their vision is simple and powerful: no pet should go untreated or face euthanasia when there is a viable treatment option. The facilities include: 10 modern consulting rooms; 4 fully equipped theatres; Digital X-ray and dedicated dental suites; Separate dog and cat wards to reduce stress and improve patient welfare; In-house orthopaedic capability. Stable inpatients benefit from nurse-led care through the night, ensuring monitored recovery and comfort. That means your focus stays where it should be, on the patients who need your clinical expertise most. There is no traditional hierarchy here. The culture is deliberately collaborative. Everyone contributes. Everyone is heard. The aim is clinical excellence, not internal politics.
