The Opportunity

A very exciting opportunity has become available for a qualified Dispensing Optician Manager to join a busy and growing practice in Hertfordshire, part of a well-respected multiple optical group.

This is much more than simply a dispensing position. The practice is looking for somebody who can become a strong clinical presence on the shop floor, supporting the team, maintaining high standards and helping the practice continue to develop.

There’s already an established team and commercial leadership in place, so you’ll have plenty of support around you. What they’re looking for now is somebody who can bring their optical knowledge and leadership experience to the team.

For somebody looking beyond their next job and thinking about their longer-term career, there are genuine opportunities to develop into wider leadership positions within the business.

The Role

As Dispensing Optician Manager, you’ll take a hands-on approach and be involved in both the clinical and management side of the practice.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading the clinical side of the practice day-to-day
• Supporting colleagues with technical and dispensing queries
• Delivering a high standard of patient care
• Coaching, supporting and developing members of the optical team
• Helping onboard and train new starters
• Monitoring KPIs and maintaining high service standards
• Working closely with the wider management team to support performance and growth
• Helping maintain a smooth and well-organised working environment
• Leading from the front and being somebody the team can turn to

You’ll also have support to further develop your management experience in areas such as appraisals and disciplinaries, so you don’t necessarily need to have covered every aspect of people management previously.

The Practice

You’ll be joining a busy high-street practice with increasing patient demand and a strong team already in place.

The practice has:

• 3 testing rooms – 2 optical and 1 hearing
• A team of around 8 colleagues working day-to-day
• Experienced Optometrists and retail colleagues
• Growing test volumes
• Established commercial leadership
• A varied working environment where no two days are quite the same

It’s a particularly good opportunity for somebody who enjoys a busy practice environment and wants to have a genuine influence on how the team and practice develop.

Salary & Benefits

• £35,000 – £38,000 salary DOE
• GOC fees paid
• 33 days’ holiday

What Are They Looking For?

To be considered, you’ll need to be a qualified and GOC-registered Dispensing Optician.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

• Around 2 years’ management or supervisory experience
• Strong clinical and dispensing knowledge
• Confidence supporting colleagues with technical queries
• A positive, approachable leadership style
• Experience coaching and developing a team
• Good commercial awareness
• Drive, determination and a genuine passion for optics
• The ambition to develop your career over the longer term

They’re also happy to consider an experienced Dispensing Optician Supervisor or Assistant Manager from a busy practice who feels ready to take that next step into management.
