Skilled Composite Aircraft FitterLocation: Bristol – Western ApproachContract Type: 6-Month Rolling Contract (Open-Ended)Shift Pattern: 12/7 Day Shift (Average 40.25 Hours Per Week)Pay rates:£23.59 per hour once on shift - £18.43 per hour during training period (approximately 2 weeks)£27.65 per hour weekday overtime£36.86 per hour weekend overtimeMorson Edge is recruiting for Skilled Composite Aircraft Fitters to join a leading aerospace manufacturing programme based at Western Approach, Bristol.This is an exciting opportunity to work on advanced aircraft structures, supporting the assembly of main wing assemblies and sub-assemblies using composite and metallic materials. Working within a modern aerospace manufacturing environment, you'll be part of a highly skilled team delivering complex aircraft components to the highest quality standards.The successful candidate will have previous aircraft assembly experience and be confident working from engineering drawings, technical specifications, and manufacturing processes to exacting aerospace standards.Key ResponsibilitiesAssemble and trim composite and metallic aircraft componentsDrill, ream, and countersink composite and metallic structuresSet aircraft components into calibrated build jigsCarry out deburring and under-head radius preparation of aircraft assembliesPerform fettling activities using approved and calibrated toolingUse nut runners and pre-set torque equipment for assembly operationsInterpret engineering drawings, manufacturing instructions, and technical specificationsMaintain high standards of workmanship and product qualitySupport continuous improvement activities within the manufacturing environmentEnsure compliance with all Health & Safety requirements and proceduresSelf-certify completed work in accordance with approved processes and standardsEssential Skills & ExperienceCompletion of a recognised Engineering Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, or City & Guilds Level 3 qualificationMinimum 3 years' relevant experience assembling aircraft components using engineering drawings and manufacturing processesExperience working with composite and metallic aircraft structuresAbility to assemble and trim composite materials to close tolerancesStrong hand skills, attention to detail, and quality focusUnderstanding of aerospace quality systems and manufacturing standardsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamStrong communication and problem-solving skillsDesirable SkillsExperience operating CNC machinery and associated manufacturing processesWorking knowledge of SAP and Microsoft Office applicationsExperience within an aerospace or aircraft manufacturing environmentFamiliarity with continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principlesAssessment ProcessSuccessful applicants will be required to attend an on-site trade test, which will assess practical competencies including:DrillingRivetingCountersinkingWorking with composite materialsWhy Apply?Competitive hourly rates with enhanced overtime opportunities6-month rolling contract with long-term prospects and no defined end dateWork on advanced aerospace manufacturing programmesModern facilities and state-of-the-art equipmentOpportunity to further develop specialist composite aircraft assembly skillsJoin a highly skilled and supportive engineering teamLong-term career opportunities within a world-class aerospace environmentThis is an excellent opportunity for experienced Aircraft Fitters, Composite Technicians, Aerospace Assemblers, or Manufacturing Technicians looking to contribute to cutting-edge aerospace programmes while developing their skills in a high-performance manufacturing environment.
