  • Desirable: Epilepsy/seizure management experience; however, training will be provided.
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Days & Hours: This role is available as a job share for one or two SEN Support Workers covering weekday and weekend shifts. One Support Worker may also cover all shifts if preferred and available. Shifts: Saturdays and Sundays 10.00 am to 8.00 pm and Mondays 2.00 pm to 8.00 pm, with additional hours during school holidays and to cover annual leave, all to be mutually agreed in advance.

About the Client: David is 14 years old and lives with his mum, dad, and younger sister in a loving, supportive family. He is charming, engaging, and has a great sense of humour, especially enjoying jokes, tricks, and making people laugh. He enjoys being read to, listening to music, talking about his favourite things and films, and taking part in fun activities at home or locally, including using his electric wheelchair in the garden. David has Cerebral Palsy affecting all four limbs (more on his right side). He can feed himself with gentle prompting but needs support with dressing and personal care. He has some communication challenges and benefits from patience, encouragement, and attentive listening. He also has epilepsy; further information is available upon application.

The Role at a Glance This role is undertaken on a 2:1 basis alongside another SEN Support Worker, or as 1:1 support, with a parent present in the home. Weekday shifts usually start at 2.00 pm (10.00 am in school holidays/weekends), supporting preparation for David’s return home and daily routine, while weekends are more relaxed and paced around rest and activities. David has a fully adapted bedroom, bathroom, and playroom, where he chooses his daily “agenda” of games and activities. Planning play, homework, therapies, and outings in advance helps him feel secure. He responds well to encouragement and reward-based motivation, particularly with hoist transfers and therapy. On Mondays, he returns from school between 3.30–4.00 pm; the earlier start allows preparation and support with the school run before his evening routine of snack, downtime, homework, therapy, tea, and bedtime.

This Job Would Suit This role suits an SEN Support Worker who can build a trusting, positive relationship with David and engage with him confidently. Experience with young teenagers and working within a family and job-share team is essential. A fun, warm, and thoughtful approach is key.

Why You’ll Love This Role Excellent onboarding, ongoing supervision and training are provided, along with strong support from a warm and welcoming family. A great opportunity to work with a special young person within a supportive team.
