About the role

Estimator

Prepare detailed analysis of cost estimates and forecasts provided by others.
Analyse drawings, specifications, and scope documents to ensure comprehensive coverage of the DPs product.
Ensure alignment with LTC cost estimating protocols and governance.
Benchmark costs against similar major projects (e.g. HS2, Tideway, Crossrail 2).
Work closely with delivery partners, design consultants, and client representatives.
Support the development of Basis of Estimate (BoE) documentation and estimating plans for PCF stage gates and investment reviews.
Maintain audit trails and documentation for all estimating activities.
Support risk and contingency assessments.
Use industry-standard tools (e.g. CostX, Candy, Excel, BIM-integrated platforms).
Promote innovation in digital estimating and automation.

 
Previous Experience

Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management, or similar.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in estimating roles on major infrastructure projects.
Proven experience in estimating on infrastructure projects.
Familiarity with IPA Cost Estimating Guidance, DfT TAG, and Green Book principles.
Knowledge/and or practice of QCRA, QSRA, Risk workshops, managing and determining forms of risk.

 
Skills

Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
Effective communication and stakeholder engagement.
Estimating Techniques: Strong capability in first principles estimating and structured Basis of Estimate documentation
Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., CostX, PRISM, Excel-based models), and integration with planning and risk tools.
Ability to use benchmarking data and market data to validate and challenge estimates.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
