About the role
We’re looking for an experienced Senior or Principal Bridge Engineer to take ownership of critical packages of work for bridges and structural projects. This hybrid role is based from Birmingham, Reading, Leeds, or Manchester, with the flexibility to travel to sites as required. If you’re a Chartered Engineer with hands-on experience in bridge design and post-tensioning projects, this is an excellent opportunity to lead high-profile initiatives. Salary Inside IR35 – Initial 6–12 month contract. Location and Working Pattern Hybrid working from Birmingham, Reading, Leeds, or Manchester offices, with site travel as required for National Highways PTSI programmes, including night and day shifts. ResponsibilitiesLead the delivery of small to medium work packages, including inspection, assessment, design, and renewal schemesProvide technical leadership, checking, and approval on designs, calculations, and reportsOffer mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, developing team capabilityAct as a key liaison with clients and multidisciplinary project teamsEnsure compliance with industry standards, specifications, and governance processesContribute to planning, risk management, and commercial complianceAttend sites on an ad-hoc basis for PTSI programmes, including night or day shiftsProvide on-site supervision for PTSI activities in line with CS 465, ensuring accurate event logging and complianceProduce PTSI interpretative reports following site supervisionMust-have RequirementsDegree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent)Chartered Engineer status (CEng MICE or MIStructE)Significant experience with post-tensioned concrete bridgesStrong background in bridge or structural design, assessment, and asset managementProven ability to lead technical delivery on major projectsKnowledge of relevant design codes and analytical methodsEffective communicator comfortable working across multi-disciplinary teamsNice-to-have SkillsExperience with Local Authority or rail-related structuresFamiliarity with asset management systems and inspection regimesPrevious experience as CRE, checker, or design leadUnderstanding of National Highways standards and proceduresApply Now If you meet the requirements and are keen to take on a technically challenging role with responsibility for PTSI-related bridge works, click apply today or reach out to discuss further.The NRL Group connect global companies with the right people to bring engineering projects to life.
