Senior Buyer – Engineering Manufacturing, Knutsford, £70K + benefits + car allowance +annual bonus, occasional worldwide travel.

A well-established engineering manufacturer supplying critical components to the global energy sector is seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to join its procurement team.

This is a key role responsible for sourcing complex engineered components and specialist materials used in precision manufacturing environments. The position will suit someone with a strong engineering background who understands machining processes and technical specifications, and who has experience managing international supply chains.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the procurement of machined components, castings, forgings and specialist metals.
• Develop and manage suppliers across China and India, ensuring quality, cost, and delivery targets are met.
• Identify and implement cost reduction initiatives with both new and existing suppliers.
• Work closely with engineering and production teams to ensure technical requirements are fully understood and achieved.
• Build long-term supplier partnerships and monitor supplier performance.
• Support supplier audits and continuous improvement activities.
• Occasional international travel to China and India to visit suppliers and support sourcing projects.

Candidate Requirements

• Proven experience in a Senior Buyer or Procurement role within engineering or manufacturing.
• Engineering background with a solid understanding of technical components.
• Experience working with or closely alongside machine shops / precision machining environments.
• Knowledge of specialist materials and metals, including Inconel, is highly desirable.
• Experience sourcing suppliers across China and India.
• Strong negotiation skills with a track record of delivering cost savings.
• Ability to understand technical drawings and specifications.
