NHS Band 5 Server and Storage Administrator

NHS | Infrastructure, Servers & Virtualisation Want to run critical infrastructure that directly impacts patient care? This is a hands-on engineering role where your technical decisions matter. We're looking for a sharp, proactive Server & Storage Engineer to own and optimise a complex, high-availability environment. What You'll Be Doing Own server infrastructure (Windows/Linux) across a multi-site environment Deliver 2nd/3rd line support for complex incidents and escalation Manage virtualisation platforms (VMware / Hyper-V) Maintain backup, disaster recovery & business continuity strategies Ensure system security, patching & compliance across all servers Build and optimise file, print & storage services Support project rollouts, migrations & infrastructure upgrades Troubleshoot deeply - from OS to hardware to network layers Deep understanding of: Strong server engineering experience (Windows Server + Linux) Solid virtualisation expertise (VMware / Hyper-V) Storage, backup & restore processes Patch management & system security Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) Proven ability to debug complex infrastructure issues end-to-end Experience working in high-availability / mission-critical environments Confident delivering 3rd line support and owning incidents Experience with enterprise server hardware (maintenance, upgrades, replacements) Familiarity with Azure / Microsoft ecosystem Working knowledge of ITIL practices and service management Experience in regulated environments (e.g. healthcare or similar) Relevant certifications (Microsoft, VMware, CompTIA or equivalent experience) What Makes This Role Different You'll be a key technical authority, not just a ticket resolver Exposure to enterprise-scale infrastructure across multiple sites Real impact: your work supports critical services Involvement in disaster recovery, security, and infrastructure strategy Opportunity to shape and improve systems, not just maintain them *Rates depend on experience and client requirements
