About the role
Looking for flexible part-time work with a major UK supermarket? Sainsbury’s recruits for a variety of store-based roles across the country, including Trading Assistant, Services Assistant and Online Assistant opportunities. Depending on the vacancy, you could support customers, replenish shelves, operate checkouts or prepare online grocery orders. You’ll receive training across the tasks relevant to your role while developing practical experience in customer service, teamwork, retail operations and digital store systems.

The Role
Sainsbury’s offers a range of part-time positions across its supermarkets and local stores. The exact responsibilities will depend on the vacancy you choose.
Trading Assistants focus on replenishing products, checking dates and prices and ensuring the shop floor is ready for customers. Services Assistants may work across checkouts, self-service tills, kiosks, petrol stations, Click & Collect and other customer services. Online Assistants select products for home delivery orders and help prepare shopping for delivery drivers.
Typical responsibilities may include:
- Welcoming customers and offering friendly, proactive assistance.
- Building knowledge of products, promotions and services so you can make useful recommendations.
- Replenishing shelves and keeping products tidy, available and well presented.
- Checking prices, dates, temperatures and stock accuracy.
- Operating checkouts, self-service tills, kiosks or other service points.
- Selecting suitable products and substitutions for online grocery orders.
- Processing orders and helping prepare deliveries for home delivery drivers.
- Supporting Click & Collect services, refunds, complaints and customer enquiries.
- Moving stock and deliveries safely, including containers or roll cages weighing up to 15kg in relevant roles.
- Working flexibly across the store to support colleagues and maintain a clean, safe shopping environment.

You must be above the statutory school-leaving age and have the right to work in the UK. You will normally need to be at least 18 if the vacancy includes shifts beginning before 6am or finishing after 11pm.
