Project Management Summer Placement – 2027 Register your Interest

Network Rail’s Project Management Summer Placement offers penultimate-year students the opportunity to spend 10 weeks working on projects that help shape one of the UK’s largest infrastructure organisations. The placement provides exposure to a range of business functions, helping you develop project management knowledge, commercial awareness and stakeholder management skills. Working alongside experienced professionals, you’ll gain practical experience, build confidence and develop an understanding of how major projects are delivered in a complex operational environment.

About Network Rail

Network Rail owns, operates and develops Britain’s railway infrastructure, helping to keep passengers and freight moving across the country. Its teams are responsible for maintaining, improving and developing the rail network while delivering projects that support communities, businesses and the wider economy.

The Role

During this 10-week placement, you’ll gain experience in a variety of project management disciplines and learn how large-scale projects are planned, delivered and monitored. You’ll explore areas including commercial management, safety, risk management and opportunity management while gaining exposure to teams across Construction, Planning, Strategy, Operations and Estimating.

You’ll contribute to significant projects by helping prepare reports and presentations, supporting contract management activities and working with a range of stakeholders. Alongside this, you’ll develop a basic understanding of engineering principles and how they contribute to successful project delivery.

Requirements

• You’ll need to be in your penultimate year at university and on track to achieve at least a 2:2 in any degree subject.
• Network Rail is looking for motivated and curious individuals who enjoy solving problems and challenging existing ways of working. You should be organised, able to work effectively as part of a team and confident when communicating with others.
