SEN Teaching Assistant Required
A welcoming and inclusive primary school in St Helens is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.
This is a full-time, long term position supporting pupils within the school’s Special Educational Needs (SEN) Base. The successful candidate will work closely with children who have a range of additional needs, helping them access learning, develop social skills, and achieve their individual targets in a supportive and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support within the SEN Base
- Support pupils with a range of needs, including ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and learning needs
- Assist in delivering personalised learning activities and interventions
- Promote positive behaviour and encourage pupil engagement in learning
- Support the social, emotional, and academic development of pupils
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and other professionals
- Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff
- Help create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment
The Successful Candidate Will Have
Essential:
- Previous experience working with children with Special Educational Needs in a school setting
- Strong understanding of supporting pupils with additional needs
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- A patient, and caring, and adaptable approach
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team
Desirable:
- Experience working within an SEN Base or specialist provision
- Knowledge and understanding of ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and speech and language needs
- Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or Level 3)
- Experience delivering targeted interventions and supporting EHCP outcomes
