SEN Teaching Assistant Required

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in St Helens is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.

This is a full-time, long term position supporting pupils within the school’s Special Educational Needs (SEN) Base. The successful candidate will work closely with children who have a range of additional needs, helping them access learning, develop social skills, and achieve their individual targets in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities 

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support within the SEN Base
• Support pupils with a range of needs, including ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and learning needs
• Assist in delivering personalised learning activities and interventions
• Promote positive behaviour and encourage pupil engagement in learning
• Support the social, emotional, and academic development of pupils
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and other professionals
• Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff
• Help create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment

The Successful Candidate Will Have

Essential:

• Previous experience working with children with Special Educational Needs in a school setting
• Strong understanding of supporting pupils with additional needs
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• A patient, and caring, and adaptable approach
• The ability to work effectively as part of a team

Desirable:

• Experience working within an SEN Base or specialist provision
• Knowledge and understanding of ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and speech and language needs
• Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or Level 3)
• Experience delivering targeted interventions and supporting EHCP outcomes
