About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a committed and passionate Attendance Officer to develop their career within a thriving secondary school in Birmingham and make a lasting impact on the lives of young people and their families. Working as part of a dedicated pastoral team, the successful candidate will play a key role in promoting excellent attendance, positive behaviour, safeguarding, and student wellbeing.
The Attendance Officer will work closely with students, parents/carers, pastoral leaders, teaching staff, and external agencies to identify and address barriers to attendance, helping pupils develop positive habits that support their educational success. This role offers the opportunity to gain valuable experience while contributing to a supportive and inclusive school community that places student achievement and welfare at the heart of everything it does.
The Successful Candidate Will:

  • Be self-motivated, compassionate, and committed to supporting young people.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families, staff, and external agencies.
  • Support pastoral provision and early-help interventions for students and families.
  • Contribute to whole-school attendance, behaviour, and safeguarding priorities.
  • Be highly organised, with the ability to maintain accurate records and manage attendance data effectively.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, discretion, and a high standard of literacy and communication skills.
  • Be committed to promoting equality, inclusion, and positive outcomes for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and track student attendance and punctuality.
  • Identify attendance concerns and implement appropriate intervention strategies.
  • Work with parents/carers to improve attendance and engagement with school.
  • Conduct attendance meetings, home visits, and follow-up actions where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and produce reports for school leaders.
  • Support vulnerable students through effective pastoral and safeguarding processes.
  • Liaise with external agencies and support services to ensure students receive appropriate interventions.
  • Promote a positive school culture that encourages excellent attendance, behaviour, and wellbeing.
