Principal Design Engineer
£65–75K + benefits and Relocation & Visa available
Southampton (Hybrid)
Fast‑growing clean‑tech maritime business developing wind‑assisted propulsion systems is seeking a hands‑on Principal Design Engineer to lead structural/mechanical design of major subsystems.
You’ll own 3D/parametric modelling, structural analysis, and class‑compliant design, taking concepts through to production‑ready hardware with real‑world feedback.
ABOUT YOU
- Degree in Mechanical / Structural / Marine / Naval Architecture
- 5–10 years designing marine/offshore structures
- Strong 3D CAD & parametric modelling (NX, Inventor, similar)
- Structural analysis: FEA + hand calcs
- Experience with DNV / Lloyd’s Register / NK
- Background in large steel structures / welded assemblies
- Ability to turn load cases → validated designs
- Comfortable in a fast‑paced, hardware‑focused environment
YOUR NEW ROLE
- Lead mechanical/structural design of key subsystems
- Develop wing geometry & structural philosophy
- Define load cases and ensure classification compliance
- Perform/oversee stress & fatigue analysis
- Engage directly with class societies
- Mentor junior engineers
